<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">In November 2009, King Township’s (Ontario, Canada) Tanya Shepherd, 28, died of colon cancer, leaving behind friends, family, husband, and a young child. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">To raise awareness of the disease in memory of Tanya, Holly, her sister, Kate Shepherd, and sister-in-law, Jennifer Shepherd, are organizing a <span style="color: red;">Push for Your Tush run/walk in Aurora</span>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">In prior years, the sisters-in-law raised funds through the annual Underwear Affair in Toronto, where the team dedicated to Tanya’s memory, Tanya’s Tushies, was the top fundraising team. But when it was cancelled the year after Tanya passed, we knew we had to keep the awareness out there.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">More than 22,500 Canadians were diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010 and more than 9,100 died from the disease. <u>WOW! Surprising because early intervention avoids DEATH in most cases!</u></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">During Tanya’s fight, family members created and sold cancer bead bracelets, where each colour of bead represented a different type of cancer, something we have continued to do to raise awareness and support for other families.</span><br />

However this shopping trip I was in Toronto at the HUGE Loblaws in the old Maple Leaf Gardens (amazing!), and they did not have any. So I purchased the only bar soap they had. It is an Italian brand <em>Linda</em>, not much of a scent, but double the thickness so I only needed one bar to make my regular amount and it was only $1.95. Borax is a natural deodorizer. These ingredients are safe and effective!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Some laundry soap makers spend hours boiling and mixing away, that was not for me. So I found this to be the best way. First find a grater that will grate your soap into fine pieces. I use this one</span><br />

Transfer into container. Do the same with the rest of the soap and Borax, and your done. If you have a small piece of soap left (because you were afraid to cut your fingers by going to the end of the soap) you can use this for stain removal! Just rub the soap bar with some water onto the stain before washing.</span> <br />

The polysporin, when you apply a thin layer to the inside of your nose, catches all of the dirt, dust, and pollen in the air avoiding allergy suffering later. </span></div>

So with a little motivation I have decided to try again. The weather is warming up here in the GTA (that is the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.) even though it is still only March. My first run was March 6th, 2012 on my 30 year old treadmill. </span><br />

This is a safe and proven way to reach your running goals.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;"><strong><u>Simple Squash Apple Soup</u></strong></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Prep Time:</u> 15 Minutes (depending on your skills to peel and chop...I am apparently slow)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Cook Time:</u> 35 Minutes</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Ingredients:</u></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 medium Yellow Onion, chopped</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 - 3 ribs of Celery, chopped</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1-2 Carrots, peeled & chopped</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">2 Tablespoons Butter</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 Butternut Squash, peeled, seeds & hair removed, and chopped into small cubes</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1-2 Apples (suggested Granny Smith, but I used Royal Gala)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">*note the ratio is 3:1 for squash to apple</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">3 Cups of vegetable broth</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">1 Cup water</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">*Spices to taste: Cinnamon, nutmeg, Cayenne, salt, pepper</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">(I only added a pinch of cinnamon, the broth carries enough salt so no need to add more)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u>Steps to Soup:</u></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">In a 3 inch deep x 9-10 inch circumference frying pan, (anything that can hold all the ingredients and liquid without spilling over at a boil) add the butter & onion, carrot, and celery. Saute on low-med heat, without browning for <u>5 minutes</u>.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This is a good time to start peeling your squash and apples and chop them up. I used a peeler as I found it much easier/safer than a knife for my inexperience with peeling "difficult" fruits and vegetables.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Next, add the chopped up Squash, apple, broth and water to the pan with the other ingredients.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer for <u>30 minutes</u>.</span><br />

<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">One whole Banana</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Vanilla Yogurt - three heaping tablespoons *or until desired thickness</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Top off with Fruit / Orange Juice *I used a orange, strawberry, banana juice.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">ice cubes (put in after mixing)</span></li>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Put your handful of Kale and a bit of water into the Magic Bullet. Kale is a bitter leafey lettuce, it is super healthy but I find it difficult to eat due to the bitter taste, however just adjust your "handful size" according to your taste and you should be fine. Pulse the Kale a few times to break up. Add juice, and yogurt. Mix (I love my magic bullet for this - perfect portions every time.). I would not suggest adding any fiber into this shake. I usually add some Fibre Sure product into my shakes but it really is not necessary here. Drop in a few ice cubes just before drinking. Drink immediatly after making.</span><br />
